Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problem of students’ vocabulary mastery of SMPN 1 Kubung 2022/2023 academic year. Their vocabulary mastery was not too good. This was caused by many things like the students only memorized the words and the use of media that had not been varied. Thus, pop-up books was chosen to be implemented as one of media in teaching vocabulary whose aimed was to find its effect on the students’ vocabulary mastery.

The sample was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique, therefore it was decided 31 students at experimental class and 32 students in control class.
Draw was used to determine the experimental class and control class. The result shows that pop-up books gave significant effect from pre-test to post-test. Pop-up books gave better effect than pictures which was analyzed by using independent samples T-test. Based on the significant level, it could be concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, that means there is a significant effect of using pop-up books as teaching media toward students’ vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Kubung 2022/2023 academic year. After conducting the research it was suggested that the teachers could use pop-up books as alternative media and the students could be more interested in learning vocabulary.
