Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine students' ability to use imperative sentences in writing procedure texts. The background of this research is the problems raised from students' lack of understanding of the concept of imperative sentences and how to use them correctly and students' difficulties in compiling procedure texts in an orderly and logical manner. The subjects of this study were ninth grade students of SMPN 4 Solok in the 2023/2024 academic year.

This research was conducted using quantitative descriptive methods. In collecting data, researchers used a writing test. Tests are given to students to determine students' ability to use imperative sentences in writing procedure texts. Students write procedure texts by choosing one of the given topics.

The results of this research indicate that students' ability to write procedure texts is classified as not enough. Furthermore, students' ability to write positive imperative sentences in procedure texts is also classified as not enough and the last, students' ability to write negative imperative sentences in procedure texts is also classified as not enough. It can be concluded that students' ability to use imperative sentences in writing procedure texts is relatively not enough as seen from the results of the data processing that has been carried out
