Abstract
This research aims to describe the teachers‟ strategy in teaching vocabulary. Researcher found that students‟ vocabulary mastery are not equal between one student to the others. The result of learning did not show that there was enhancement because not all of students love English. Students who succeed in learning vocabulary were only they who love English. Teachers‟ involvement to make students love English depends on the use of effective strategies. In conclusion, there were several students of the SMPN 2 Kota Solok who are struggling with vocabulary in English learning.
This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this research were 3 teachers who taught English in third grade at SMPN 2 Kota. Data collection was carried out through observation and interview.
The research results showed that the teacher used several strategies in teaching vocabulary. Teachers‟ used games to teach vocabulary, teachers‟ also used several songs to teach vocabulary to students and the teachers‟ also asked students to memorize some vocabulary. It is hoped that this research will be useful for teachers, students and other researchers.
