Abstract
The result was conducted to find out the categories of teacher talk that used by English teacher during the classroom interaction, to know teacher‟s perception about their own talk in the classroom interaction, and to know students‟ perception about teacher talk in classroom. The researcherused descriptive qualitative method for analyzing the data, the population ofthis research was 5 classes of second grade students. The researcher only took one class consisting of 30 students as the sample by applying purposive sampling. The datawere collected through classroom observation, teacher‟s interview and questionnaire.
The result of this research showed that the teacher used all categories of teacher talk. For the students‟ perception toward teacher talk used by the teacher while uses ideas of students and criticize students behavior, the students agreed that teacher always use all of the feedback.It can concluded that the teacher talk which teacher used while uses ideas of students and criticize students behavior in the English class of second grade students at SMP N 6 Kota Solok is good
(positive).
In addition, English teachers in Junior High School were suggested to develop and improve their teacher talk, do they could use all the categories of teacher talk in classroom interaction. This is important because such talk has strong motivational impact on the students, with all the categories of their talk, the interaction between the teacher and the students will be built and increase. The teacher has be a good facilitator and motivator for the students in learning English.
