Abstract

This research aims to describe what kinds of error made by the students. The researcher found several problems in the pronunciation of English diphthongs in fourth semester students in English Education Department of UMMY Solok; students did not know how to pronounce diphthong correctly and students still pronounced diphthongs according to what is written.
This research was conducted by using descriptive quantitative. The sample of this research was all fourth semester students of English Education Department of UMMY Solok in the academic year 2022/2023, which are 17 students. Then
the instrument used in data collection is a test.
The results showed that the kinds of error made by students when pronouncing diphthong were omission, addition and misinformation. A total of 22 (6.47%) omission errors, 9 (2.65%) addition errors, 68 (20%) misformation errors
and 0 (0%) misordering errors. The research showed that most of the students made errors in misinformation. The least number of errors were misordering errors. It is hoped that this research will be useful for lecturers, students and next researchers.
