Abstract

The background of this research was based on the problem in students' reading comprehension on narrative text. The problems were about students' diffulty in understanding the story of narrative text. The other problems related to the strategy that used by the teacher was not effective. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to find out the effect of Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Strategy toward students' reading comprehension on narrative text at the eighth grade students of MTsN Kota Solok 2017/2018 academic year. Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Strategy is the strategy which was help students to easy in understanding narrative ext.

The used in this research was quasi experimental research with pre- test and post-test design. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of MTsN Kota Solok2017/2018 academic year which total number of students was 252. The samples was chosen by using purposive sampling technique, where VIII.B as experimental class and VIII.D as control class.

The result of this research showed that there was a positif effect of The application Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP )strategy, where the mean score at experimental class was 71,85 and control class was 65,54, it means that there was a difference in score about5,31. In otherwords, Three was a positif effect on students reading comprehersion on narrative text taught by using Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Strategy. The researcher suggests the teacher to use Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Strategy in the class because this strategy can stimulates students to think hard.
