Abstract

This study aimed to know the students' perceptions of remedial program's implementation in English language skills of eighth grade students at 2018/2019 academic year. This research was motivated by the problem of students who still have difficulty in learning English and do not get good grades. These problems are overcomed by the teacher by holding a remedial program as a tool to improve the students' score in order to achieve grades based on the KKM.

The research method used in this study was a descriptive quantitative. The sample in this study was class VIIID in the year 2018/2019 which was 25 students. The researcher used a questionnaire to collect the data. In this questionnaire, the students could tick (V) in the response column provided. The researcher used 36 number of statements with 4 indicators and 18 sub indicators. On indicators of students' perceptions in remedial program, the researcher divided them into the purpose of remedial program, steps of remedial programs, components of remedial programs, and application of remedial programs.

The results of the research showed that the students' perception on the application of the remedial program in English learning was good, the average of the students agreed with the application of the program remedial to improve students' score. It is suggested that English teacher should know the students perception toward the implementation of remedial program on students' English ability. The teacher should be able to carry out remedial program as effectively as possible with interesting media and make them more focus of the lessons, without doing other activity when teacher implementation remedial program.
