The background of this research based on the problems that raised by the students self efficacy ability in vocabulary subject. The subject of this research was the first year students of English Department of Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin University Solok at 2017/2018 academic year. The purpose of this research was to know the correlation between students self-efficacy and their vocabulary mastery at first year of English Department students of Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin University Solok at 2017/2018 academic year.
This research was conducted by using correlational study. The population of this research was the first year students of English Department of Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin University Solok at 2017/2018 academic year. The samples of this research was purposive sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire and test, in this questionnaire the students could tick (V) in the available coloms. In this case, the researcher used 24 items in form of statements which every item made based on 4 indicators of dimension in self efficacy, in indicator of dimension, the researcher devided into performance, vicarious experience, strengt, verbal persuation dan physiological state. In addition, in the test researcher used 40 multiple chooice and the indicator of test based on 2 indicators, grammar and meaning.
The conclusion of this research was about the correlation of students self-efficacy and their vocabulary mastery was moderat. The researcher also found that contribution of self-efficacy to vocabulary mastery was good. Based on those result, the researcher concluded that correlation of sel-efficacy to vocabulary mastery was moderate. Moreover, the contribution of self-efficacy to vocabulary mastery gave big contribution toward students' vocabulary mastery at first year of English Department students of Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin University Solok registered in 2017/2018 academic year. From the results of this study it can be seen that self-efficacy has a considerable influence on vocabulary ability. Researcher suggests that lecturers and students take advantage of students' self- efficacy abilities in learning vocabulary in class in order to get good learning outcomes.
