This research was aimed to know the students' difficulties in writing descriptive text at the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Lembang Jaya at 2019/2020 academic year. The background of this research was the researcher found some problems in writing descriptive text. This problem influenced the students' writing activity.
Furthermore, descriptive research was used as the design for this research. In this research, the researcher used cluster random sampling to select the sample. Sample of this research was VIII 4, it consisted of 25 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used writing test given for the students.
In this research, it was found that the students' difficulties in writing descriptive text are: first, the students' difficulties in writing generic structures was 63,5. It means that the students' difficulties was on difficult level. Second, the students' difficulties in writing language features was 60,6. It means that the students' difficulties was on difficult level. Third, the students' difficulties in writing descriptive text was 62. It means that the students' difficulties was on difficult level. So, based on the total of the students' difficulties in writing descriptive text, it can be concluded that the students' difficulties in writing descriptive text at the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Lembang Jaya at 2019/2020 academic year was on difficult level. From the research result, it is sugessted to the students to do more exercises and practice in writing the descriptive text.
