Abstract

This study was aimed to know the correlation between students' anxiety level and their speaking ability at the eighth grade of Pondok Pesantren Tahfizh Al Qur'an Al-Mumtaz Muhammadiyah Solok 2018/2019 academic year. The background of this research was the researcher found students have different level of anxiety influenced to students' speaking ability. The subject of this research was eighth grade students in Pondok Pesantren Tafhizh Al-qur'an Al-Mumtaz Solok in 2018/2019 academic year.

This research was conducted by using correlational research. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire and speaking test, in this questionnaire the students could tick (v) in the available columns. In this case, the researcher used 20 items in form of statements. For speaking test, the researcher called each student spoke in front of the class. Then, the researcher gave 1 question and students describe about their favorite animals.

The findings of this research "the correlation between students' anxiety level and their speaking ability" was moderate with scored 0,459 (moderate). The researcher also found that contribution of students' anxiety level and their speaking ability was 21%. Based on the result, the researcher concluded that the correlation of students' anxiety level to speaking ability was middle. The other side, the contribution of students' anxiety level to speaking ability just give a bit contribution toward eighth grade students of Pondok Pesantren Tahfizh Al Qur'an Al-Mumtaz Muhammadiyah Solok 2018/2019 academic year.
