Abstract

This study was estabilished to determine students' perceptions in the use of social media by teachers as learning tools for English learning during the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka. The background of this research was based on the problems raised by students in English learning using social media in implementing the Kurikulum Merdeka. The population of this research were seventh grade students as many as 32 students in class VII. 5 at SMPN 5 Solok in the 2022/2023 academic year.
This research was conducted by using a descriptive quantitative method. In collecting data, researcher used a questionnaire. Questionnaire were distributed to students to find out student perceptions. They responded by giving a mark (√) in the column provided with the level 'strongly agree', 'agree', 'doubtful', 'disagree' and 'strongly disagree'. In this case, the researcher used 28 items in the form of statements with 30 minutes of working time.
The results of this research show that students' perceptions in the use of social media by teachers as learning tools for English learning during the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka in the 2022/2023 academic year were good with a total percentage of 57.5% at the agree level which is categorized in good criteria according to the interval classification table. Furthermore, the researcher hopes that students will further improve their knowledge in English learning through social media and will be more motivated to learn English. The researcher also suggests teachers to increase the use of more types of social media to help students in English learning.
