Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problem of students’ vocabulary mastery of SMPN 2 Paninjauan 2022/2023 academic year, since their vocabulary mastery was not good. This happened because the students only memorize the words and they also very unfamiliar with English vocabulary and the use of media has not been varied. Thus, Monopoly Games was chosen to be implemented as one of the media in teaching vocabulary whose aimed was to find its effect on the students’ vocabulary mastery.
The population of this research wasthe seventh grade students of SMPN 2 Paninjauan 2022/2023 academic year, the total of the students were 45 students. This research was quasi experiment. The sample was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique, therefore it was decided 15 students at experimental class and 15 students in control class. To determine the experimental and control class was by grouping.
The result shows that monopoly games was gave significant effect from pre-test to post-test. Students’ vocabulary mastery was analyzed by using T-test statistically with result 0.345 > 0.05. Moreover, monopoly gamesgave better effect than dictionary which was analyzed by using T-test test result 0.029 > 0.05. Based on the significant level, it could be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was received that means there is significant effect of using monopoly games as teaching media toward students’ vocabulary mastery at seventh grade of SMPN 2 Paninjauan 2022/2023 academic year.
